I’m not telling you who to support, but *cough* maybe you should look at supporting these causes.
International Justice Mission: This is my very favourite organization. There is no one else who is doing as much hands on and legal work for unsafe labor conditions, human trafficking, and the sex industry world wide. “According to the United Nations,
4 billion people live outside the protection of the law. That means that their public justice systems – their police, courts, and laws – are so broken, corrupt and dysfunctional, that there is nothing to shield them from violence.” And IJM is working daily both in the US and globally to conquer modern slavery in many forms.
Elijah Rising: More invaluable work to conquer the sex trade! “Elijah Rising is ending sex trafficking sexual exploitation by equipping a new generation of Justice warriors to confront culture through prayer awareness and intervention in the spirit of Isaiah 1:17. Elijah Rising is part of a city-wide, city-owned justice prayer movement, built on an apostolic-prophetic foundation, with an eye toward a night and day, musician-led expression of victory over sex trafficking. The movement is rooted in the worth of Jesus Christ and is operating with a growing understanding that we are in the end-times battle described in the Book of Revelation. Since our beginning in 2010 as a once-a-month prayer meeting, we have become increasingly convinced that unless angels and demons move on the issue of sex trafficking, all of our human efforts will be futile. We cover several hours weekly of joyful, musician-led prayer for the ending of slavery in our city. We also raise awareness and conduct interventions that increase points of initial contact with women and children who are caught in the jaws of the commercial sex trade in Houston.” Get involved in this organization’s van tours, prayer meetings, and Justice Rallies — all of their info is on their wonderful website.
To Write Love On Her Arms: Oh, this is near and dear to my heart. “To Write Love on Her Arms is a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and invest directly into treatment and recovery.” This group is doing amazing work for a hurting community every day. Anne-Girl graced me with one of their wristbands 2 years ago at the end of a struggle of mine and I wear it proudly.
“You’ll need coffee shops and sunsets and road trips. Airplanes and passports and new songs and old songs, but people more than anything else. You will need other people and you will need to be that other person to someone else, a living, breathing screaming invitation to believe better things.” -TWLOHA
